Overview: Responsible for deciding whether or not to accept applications for life and health insurance

Review insurance applications, authorize reinsurance of policy when risk is high and decline excessive risks
Decrease value of policy when risk is substandard and specify applicable endorsements or apply rating to ensure safe profitable distribution of risks, using reference materials
Examine documents to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing and value and condition of property
Review company records to determine amount of insurance in force of closely related risks
Communicate with field representatives, medical personnel, and others to obtain further information, quote rates, and explain company underwriting policies
Conduct audit, training and development of junior underwriters
Monitor team performance and productivity and applications submitted by MDRT advisors and high net worth clients
