Aligning Requirements to Company Strategy:

  • Interpreting SHEQ requirements and presenting the key responsibilities and deliverables during forward planning sessions.
  • Forecasting financial resourcing provisions for inclusion in the departmental business plans.
  • Preparing specifications and briefs to guide appointment and the scope of work of service providers relating to Safety, Health, Risk, Environment and Quality and Food Safety.

Integrated Management System:

  • Benchmarking SHEQ activities against other manufacturing industries and implementing changes to the processes.
  • Overseeing the management of the information system and its integration into the business system to enable access of the information by the different functional areas.
  • Engaging and following up the measures and actions that need prioritization and action by the linedepartment to ensure compliance with Food Safety, Health, Quality, Risk and Environmental guidelines and legislative prescripts.

Maintaining Compliance:

  • Identifying and rectifying deviations or reviewing the structures of the Management System to conform to relevant ISO and industry standards and requirements.
  • Scheduling and executing environmental, health, safety, quality, food safety, ethical and risk audits and interpreting findings against standards and legislation with a view to establishing and evaluating the state of the factory.

Senior SHEQ Co-ordinator / Risk Officer

  • Develop and implement Food Safety, SHERQ, and Animal Welfare programs in line with company and international standards, ensuring compliance with food safety, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Ensure legal compliance with relevant legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act, Meat Safety Act, Consumer Protection Act, etc.) and align internal policies with best practices.
  • Manage regular inspections and audits from regulatory bodies (Dept. of Labour, Dept. of Health, etc.), ensuring fire prevention, emergency procedures, and business continuity plans are in place.
  • Conduct hazard analysis, develop control measures, and ensure internal audits and inspections are carried out. Address food safety, SHERQ, and Animal Welfare training needs.
  • Implement and manage integrated Food Safety/SHERQ systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001, etc.), ensuring alignment with Total Quality Management systems (ISO 9001/22000).
  • Lead the Alexander Forbes Risk Management Program, communicate risk data, and ensure compliance with SHE requirements, including hygiene, safety equipment, and emergency drills.
  • Liaise with external bodies for compliance and best practices, manage the SHERQ budget, and oversee corrective actions.
  • Coordinate training for SHERQ representatives, manage union and employee communication regarding Food Safety, SHERQ, and Animal Welfare matters.
