Senior Project Engineer

Strategic System Projects

• Providing project management and engineering services to support the planning, design, procurement, and construction of high-value, high-visibility, multi-year and/or schedule-constrained electric utility substations, switchyards, and transmission line projects ranging from 500kV to 12kV.
• Responsibilities include coordinating with various stakeholders to direct and prioritize project work plans to meet objectives and milestones as well as managing work scopes, specifications, material procurement, constructability plans, and contract documents.

Distribution Performance Engineer

• Investigated solutions to meet reliability targets, analyzed power quality metrics, resolved power quality issues, and created visual aids to establish a baseline for system performance.

Rotational Engineering Program

Resource Analysis & Planning

• Worked to backcast SRP’s current Production Cost Model with captured data to find improvements to the forecasting process.

Distribution Performance & Planning

• Implemented solutions to balance load between phases of distribution, assisted with switching solutions for Annual Plan, authorized feeder requests, and analyzed the distribution model.

Substation Design

• Provided electrical engineering support for estimation, design, drafting, and installation of distribution and transmission substation equipment.
• Designed and drafted schematic and connection diagrams for replacement of transformer protectors, battery chargers, and the installation of new metering and telecom equipment.

Generation Engineering

• Provided engineering services under Plant Technical Support throughout SRP’s generation fleet related to plant outages, equipment inspections, relay upgrades, transformer and breaker maintenance, and control cabinet upgrades.
• Worked closely with contractors and senior engineers on successful implementation of new reverse osmosis (RO) system, replacement of exciter breaker, and performed flux probe and partial discharge (PD) coupler testing on various generator units.

Distribution Integration

• Led effort to update Operating Procedures (OPs) with accurate information for customer sites that utilize Distributed Energy Resource (DER) systems greater than one megawatt.
• Investigated potential locations for pilot deployment of new Remote Fault Indicators (RFIs) to improve 12kV distribution sensing capabilities as well as grid reliability.

Distribution System Operator (DOC)

• Responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the distribution electrical system.
• Authorized to direct switching of facilities, issue clearances and hold tags to field personnel.
• Collected, logged, and recorded electrical system data and prepared operating reports.
• Served as representative with interconnected companies and neighboring utilities involving immediate or long-term operating issues.
• Collaborated with other departments to ensure efficient maintenance and construction of the electrical system.

Operator for Distribution Control Center

• Achieved Level A Operator certification which is the highest level that grants full authority to operate the state Power’s distribution system and provide on-the-job training to new employees.
• Monitored, controlled, and operated equipment for the state Power’s distribution system such as breakers, regulators, reclosers, switches, and capacitors.
• Managed multiple large system-wide outages from various storm-related conditions and effectively routed appropriate personnel to affected areas. Actions resulted in the safe isolation of trouble and restoration of power for hundreds of thousands of customers.
