• Completed numerous construction projects, in particular a challenging design and build project for an existing structure riddled with asbestos and being a listed building, for the University of Cambridge in an old Nuclear Bunker built for the British Government in the early 1950s.
• Chair of Building Solutions (which undertakes works from NZD 1,000 - NZD 6,000,000) H&S Committee (Group Wide) to review trends and data in respect of active construction sites. This is then fed back to senior management with suggested actions developed. My greatest input was to suggest that project managers/site managers who attend meetings should bring a different person with them, such as a carpenter, a trainee site manager or an engineer. By doing this we learnt a lot from those at different levels and areas within the business and improved the H&S culture
• Headed up the company’s General Works Department which undertakes works up to the value of NZD 6,000,000. During this time I rebuilt an entire team including Quantity Surveyors, Site Managers, Supervisors and Tradespeople
• Lead the review of potential tenders, adjudicating them as well as discussing programmes and plans of work, to ensure that the department targets the correct work for the business
• Completed my BSc Honours Degree part-time whilst working which was a rewarding challenge and which has in turn made me fully appreciate the trainees I work with, by providing support and encouragement
